What to Expect When You Visit

Our assemblies are simple and straight-forward; we follow the pattern set forth in the New Testament for worshipping our God. We also aim to encourage and edify one another as we come together for that common purpose. It is our sincere hope that attending a service with us will draw you into a closer relationship with the Lord.

The PREACHING at Old Union is based on the Bible alone. It is our desire to share the Word of God with you and help you to see God's plan for you. We are all constantly learning new things that we can apply to our lives. As we do not currently have a full-time preacher, the men of the congregation have stepped up to preach on rotation with guest speakers. This has been a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their abilities to present the Gospel, and they have done a fantastic job of delivering Biblically sound lessons. We trust that it would be a blessing to you to hear what they have to say.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth."
John 4:24

At Old Union, we believe in the power of PRAYER. At every service, we take the time to speak to our Heavenly Father. The privilege of addressing God directly has been granted to us by His Son Jesus, so it is in Jesus' name that we pray. Prayer is an opportunity to praise God for who He is, thank Him for all the many ways He has blessed us, lift up the sick, ask for guidance, and confess shortcomings. We would be honored to pray for you too!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God.”
Philippians 4:6

A capella SINGING is another key element of our worship service. This means that we do not use any instruments to accompany our voices. Singing together as a congregation is both a means of praising God and encouraging one another. The songs in our hymn book describe our glorious God, tell of the many ways He has blessed us and continues to work in our lives, and contain instruction for godly living. We encourage you to sing along when you visit with us.

"Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."
Ephesians 5:19

We observe the LORD'S SUPPER every Sunday, following the example given by Christ on the night before His crucifixion. The elements we use in this memorial are the same one's that He used; unleavened bread and fruit of the vine. Jesus taught that these represent His body which was sacrificed and His blood which was shed when He died on the cross for our sin. We partake in this communion to remember Jesus' death as He has instructed us to do. During this solemn time of reflection, we examine ourselves and recommit to the cause of Christ.

"For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes."
1 Corinthians 11:26

The work of the church at Old Union is supported by members GIVING of their means. The funds are used for the spiritual growth of the congregation, helping members in need, building expenses, and to support men preaching in other areas, such as the Phillipines. We pass baskets around every Sunday morning to collect a free-will offering. Each member decides in his own heart how much to contribute. We do not solicit funds from everyone who walks through our doors; giving is the responsibility of the members of the local church only. If it is your first time visiting with us, we would appreciate if you would fill out a visitor card in the back of the pew in front of you and drop that in the basket instead.

"On the first day of the week let every one of you lay in store, as God has prospered him."
1 Corinthians 16:2a
